The Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago (FAHSC) invites you to a special kick-off event as we prepare for our landmark exhibition, "Unheard Voices of Care: Filipino Nurses in America." This afternoon features 2024 Illinois Humanities Public Humanities Award honoree Dr. Ada Cheng, who will present her acclaimed Road Scholar program: “Yellow Peril Past and Present: Understanding Asian America through Personal and Historical Stories.

For over a century, Filipino nurses have been the backbone of American healthcare. This storytelling session serves as the official community kick-off for our upcoming exhibit. Dr. Cheng will use her "intimate storytelling" style to explore themes of migration and identity, providing a powerful emotional and historical context for the artifacts—from vintage nursing caps to personal journals—that will be featured in the upcoming exhibition.
