Visit Declaration 1776: The Big Bang of Modern Democracy, a traveling exhibition from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, on display April 20 through May 15 in the library’s Illinois Room during regular open hours. 

The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching of American history. Declaration 1776 is a seven-panel pop-up exhibition that ex-plores the creation of the Declara-tion of Independence. The exhibit is geared towards teens and adults. 

Exhibit highlights include: 

 The historical context sur-rounding the drafting of the Declaration of Independence 

 The Declaration’s influence on American democracy and civ-il rights movements 

This exhibition is made possible through the generosity of friends and family honoring the memory of the late Dr. William Kuhn.
