Trails to Adventure
The Trails to Adventure region’s dramatic geography has shaped its history and culture for centuries. Long before the battles of the American Revolution and the Civil War, the towering bluffs, dense forests, and hidden valleys offered shelter and resources to the Indigenous peoples of the Shawnee Hills, whose trails have since become historic byways. Often called “Little Egypt” for its fertile river valleys, this Southern Illinois region nurtured thriving farm communities and inspires a legacy of exploration.
